  • HWDC has five air-conditioning systems and each has the highest standard of MERV 13 filters. MERV 13 filters are effective at controlling airborne bacteria and pollutants released through sneezing as well as dust, pollen, dust mites, and pet dander.
  • Limited admittance during high traffic hours to reduce congestion and capacity.
  • HWDC follows all State of Hawaiʻi mandates in regards to Covid safety protocols.
  • Increased cleaning practices of high touch surfaces with approved cleaning products.
  • Multiple hand sanitizer stations throughout the exhibit and venue.
  • Contactless transactions available to lessen transmission risk.

Admission is by donation and “Pay what you wish” when you get to the Discovery Center!

HWDC is a donation based nonprofit that depends on your support to keep our Discovery Center doors open and to continue doing our important conservation work with Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund.

For parties of more than 12 (school groups, etc…), please call us at (808) 900-7124 to schedule a time. 

  • HWDC is open every day from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
  • Your visit will take about 60 – 90 minutes.
  • Suggested final entry is one hour (2:00pm) before closing.

Yes! Bring in your parking ticket from Whalers Village parking lot to the front desk at HWDC for a validation sticker.

Yes. Wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters are all permitted.

Yes, we allow service animals such as guide dogs. No pets are permitted.

Yes, strollers and babies are permitted.

Photos of the HWDC are permissible. However, video recording is NOT allowed. Tripods are not allowed in the venue.

We are on the third floor accessible by elevator or stairs. Look for the giant mural of spinner dolphins and turtles on the elevator shaft and take it up to us!
