HAWAIʻI SEA TURTLE RESCUE
A Fabien Cousteau Expeditions Book

by Fabien Cousteau (Author), James O. Fraioli (Author), and Joe St.Pierre (Illustrator)

Fabien Cousteau, Hannah Bernard of Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund, Tommy Cutt of Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute, and two junior explorers embark on a mission to rescue endangered sea turtles in the coral reefs of Maui, Hawaiʻi, in this next brightly illustrated installment of the Fabien Cousteau Expeditions graphic novel series.

Fabien Cousteau comes to Maui, Hawaiʻi for a vacation, but when he hears that endangered sea turtles are in trouble, he knows he has to help!

Junior explorers Baylor and Bianca join Fabien, Hannah, and Tommy, on their mission to rescue these turtles from ghost nets – fishing nets that have been left adrift in the ocean and tangle up anything that strays into their path.

During their dive, they’ll also encounter sharks, humpback whales, dolphins, seals, eagle rays, octopi, and the vibrant variety of wildlife that lives among the coral reefs of Molokini Crater. Can the team save these injured turtles in time?

Dive deep into this colorful and informative graphic novel adventure that brings readers up close and personal with the sea creatures of the vast and beautiful Pacific Ocean!

Along the way, readers will also see how pollution and climate change can impact entire underwater ecosystems and find actionable steps that they can take to reduce waste and protect these precious reefs.

Founded in 1996 by Hannah Bernard and Bill Gilmartin, Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of Hawaiʻi’s wildlife. We protect native species and habitats, and provide environmental education opportunities for our community members and visitors.

HWF’s mission is to protect native wildlife, focusing on coastal and marine wildlife species across Hawaiʻi, including the hawksbill sea turtle (honuʻea) and the Hawaiian green sea turtle (honu), and many other finned, feathered, flippered, and plant friends.

We engage and inspire our communities, keiki (kids) and volunteers in education, outreach, marine debris removal, conservation, research, and advocacy campaigns to keep Hawaiʻi alive and wild.

Volunteers and donations enable us to our work. Donate or volunteer with us: www.wildhawaii.org

In addition to co-founding Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund, Hannah (featured in the book!) was the main visionary for the Hawaiʻi Wildlife Discovery Center on Maui. She wanted to create a place where people can get engaged, excited and delighted, and learn about respecting the Hawaiian culture and environment – because they are all intertwined.

Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund partnered with the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and Whalers Village and created an extraordinary venue for everyone to come and enjoy. While there you will find out about the work that HWF does to keep Hawaiʻi alive and wild!
